Marmot Fall 2022

Campaigns with Marmot are some of my favorites and I have been lucky enough to be involved in three separate campaigns over the last few years. From sleeping in fire lookouts in the Cascades, to backpacking to Mt Daniels, and to the Olympic Peninsula this year.

All photographs shot by Ben Mathews, a wonderful human and a wonderful photographer. This campaign was shot on a mix of digital, 35mm and medium format film.

Meeting in Seattle area, we all loaded up our camping gear, snacks and new Marmot gear into Ben’s truck. We hadn’t seen Ben since our shoot last summer, we all caught up over the last year as we waited in line at the ferry dock. Running around giggling and looking at the views on the ferry, forever one of my favorite ways to get around and an experience that seems to bring out the childlike excitement I used to feel as a little girl living in the San Juan Islands.

Backpacking bags packed, we walked along the rocky beach until we found our perfect camping spot for the night, among the trees just above the shore of the beach. We ran up and down the beach, jumped along the driftwood logs and watched the light fade while we sat eating our dinners at a little beach campfire.

The rest of our trip consisted of hiking to beaches, searching for tide pools, identifying native plants, looking at sea stars and walking through the Olympic Rainforest. A classic picnic at Crescent Lake before a sunset hike to end our second day on the Peninsula, getting back to the truck as the star came out. One last morning trip to watch the sunrise and hike along the trails at Hurricane Ridge, with the most amazing view of the Mountains.
